Privacy Policy
Beta version (draft-2026-10)
Last updated: October 24, 2026 · Provider: Pulstart LLC, a Washington limited liability company (“we”, “us”) · Contact: admin@pulstart.com
This policy explains what SkateNav (the “app”) collects, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
| Data | Why | Where it’s kept |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address and password | To sign you in | Firebase Authentication. Not in our database. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed), never as plain text |
| Sign-in records kept by Firebase (like IP address and sign-in times) | Security and stopping abuse | Firebase Authentication |
| Your username | Shown on your profile and posts | Our database. Public to signed-in skaters |
| Clips you post, and their obstacle tags | That’s the app | Our database and storage. Public to signed-in skaters |
| Spots you add, including where you placed the dot | So skaters can find them | Our database. Public to signed-in skaters |
| Your upvotes and follows | To run those features | Our database. Who follows whom is public; upvote counts are public |
| Which version of the terms you accepted, and when | To record your agreement | Our database. Only you can read it |
We don’t keep your phone number, and we don’t keep your email address in our database.
Your age
- The app asks your birth year once, before you sign up. It keeps only an age range (under 13, 13–17, or 18 and over) on your phone.
- Your birth year is never stored, and your age is never sent to us.
- If you’re under 13, you can’t use the app, and nothing is sent to our servers.
Your location
- The app asks for location only while you’re using it, never in the background.
- Your exact position never leaves your phone, and it’s never stored on our servers.
- To find nearby posts for the Feed, the app asks our servers for posts in the grid squares around you. Each square is roughly 40 km across, so the request shows the general area you’re in. These requests aren’t stored with your account.
- The Map and Add spot use your position to open the map where you are.
- A spot’s dot is public. When you add a spot, you place the dot. Everyone signed in can see exactly where it is. If you post without moving the map, the dot is where your phone is, so move it if you don’t want that.
Your clips
- The app asks for the camera and microphone only when you tap Record. You can say no to the microphone, and your clip records without sound.
- Picking a clip from your library doesn’t need access to your photos.
- Before a clip is published, our server re-encodes it and strips all its hidden data, including any location. If anything that looks like a location is still there, the clip isn’t published.
- The original file you upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes, whether it worked or not. If processing never finishes, it’s deleted within about 12 hours.
- The copy on your phone is deleted once your post is ready, has failed for good, or is deleted. Any copy older than 48 hours is removed the next time you open the app.
What’s public
Other signed-in skaters can see your username, your posts, the spots you add, upvote counts, and who you follow and who follows you. Following someone doesn’t mean they agreed to anything.
Who we share with
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Google Firebase (part of Google Cloud), our service provider. It runs sign-in, our database, clip storage and our server code, in the United States (us-west1, Oregon).
- Map providers: Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android draw the maps. They receive the map area you’re looking at, so they can draw it, under their own privacy policies.
- Other skaters, who see what’s public (above).
- Authorities, only when the law requires it.
Town names come from GeoNames (used under CC BY 4.0). That data is stored on our servers; nothing about you is sent to GeoNames.
Analytics, ads and tracking
- The app has no analytics, advertising or tracking tools today, and shows no ads.
- If we ever add any, we’ll update this policy first. Personal details like your email, name or exact location will never go into analytics or crash reports.
Security
- Only the people who own it can change your data. Shared things, like counts and scores, are worked out by our own server code.
- We check that requests to our database, storage and server code come from the genuine SkateNav app.
- No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.
Children
The app isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email admin@pulstart.com and we’ll delete it.
Keeping and deleting
- Your data stays until you delete it or your account.
- Deleting your account in the app is coming. It will remove your profile, posts, clips, upvotes and follows. Until then, email admin@pulstart.com from the address you signed up with, and we’ll delete your account.
- Spots you added stay if other skaters posted there, so their posts keep working. They show as “added by a deleted user”.
- Content you delete is removed from the app at once, and from our systems within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. Email admin@pulstart.com.
- You can turn off location, camera or microphone in your phone’s settings at any time.
- Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under local law.
Changes
We’ll update this page and the date above, and show you the updated policy in the app before it applies.
